I love freedom. Also, freedom in Art. I think there is nothing positive,
if, to become recognized as a PAINTER with capital letters, it requires
us to be categorized within a particular "ism"; despite
the great heights (and the lesser ones) that have been reached in
the past century of "isms".
I do not believe that this will be the case in the 21st century,
in which we are having to learn the true value of freedom, and the
real limits that it implies.
The theory of freedom must also be applied to Art. The time of "anything
goes" is over. Rationalism in Art has taught us much, but it
is time for the fanaticism present at the beginnings of any movement
to be overcome. In other words, its fine to create abstract art
or any other kind of art, but not when it is an obligation, imposed
by critics and curators.
